As part of the EDU-ACT – Educational initiative aiming to combat violence, racism, discrimination, intolerance and violent radicalization in sport project, SPORT VIV implemented capacity-building activities for PE teachers in Croatia.
The training was held on 27–28 September 2025 in Samobor and gathered 57 PE teachers, including 51 female and 6 male participants.
The activity was based on the EDU-ACT Educational Modules for Teachers, developed within the project, and aimed to strengthen teachers’ capacity to identify, prevent and address violence, discrimination, intolerance and racism in physical education and grassroots sport. Special attention was given to working with children aged 10–14 and to creating safe, inclusive and respectful school sport environments.
During the training, participants explored key topics such as violence in sport, discrimination, intolerance, racism, stereotypes, exclusion, safeguarding and fair play. The programme combined theoretical input with practical and experiential methods, including group work, role play, scenario-based learning, guided reflection and sport-based educational activities.
The training was facilitated by project staff and experts with experience in physical education, sport pedagogy, inclusion and child safeguarding. Participants had the opportunity to discuss real-life situations from school and sport contexts and to explore practical tools that can be directly used in PE lessons and school sport activities.
The evaluation results showed a very high level of satisfaction among participants. A total of 47 feedback forms were collected, and more than 87% of respondents selected “Agree” or “Strongly Agree” across the core evaluation statements. Participants especially appreciated the clarity of explanations, the experiential activities, the practical examples and the usefulness of the training for their everyday teaching and coaching practice.
The capacity-building activity strengthened teachers’ knowledge, skills and confidence to address sensitive topics with pupils, while promoting fair play, inclusion, non-discrimination and positive behaviour in sport. The activity also contributed to the wider EDU-ACT objective of empowering educators as key actors in preventing violence, racism, discrimination and intolerance in grassroots sport.
